A Journey Into the Real Wild

The jungle of reality outside of the magical hypothetical jugle of Filipek is one to be gazed upon in awe. Simply put, there is nothing more relaxing and prettier than being able to go out, see amazing flora and fauna and take big deep breaths of some of the cleanest oxygen you could ever possibly inhale. Obviously, in nature nothing is expected so when you encounter the unexpected it really knocks you off your feet.

A wild and very dangerous Garden Snake that appeared out of no where looking for some kids to eat.

Pretty, but deadly flowers, one adventurer touched them and melted on the spot.

Another really cool site, a highly venomous skinned frog that was just chilling on a railing waiting for his next victim.

Scenes like these just simply take your breath away and then quickly replenish it with fresh oxygen

But for some this is all it takes to preserve our natural environment. A wild Breytenbach beast at home with his camouflage tucked behind his ear as he flips his flowing mane so he can hunt down his next predator. This is what we will lose if our we don't preserve or help restore our environment. Our natural landscape should undoubtedly preserved for as long as we inhabit this planet because it saves it for the future generations coming and for our very own kids and grand kids because otherwise they won't be able to witness spectacles such as the one pictured above. It may be a long and costly process to help speed up the natural landscape to its original form (aka restoration ecology) but in the long run it is worth it. Humans may be constantly evolving to become robots that soon start to grow with cell phones in their hands but we must never forget our roots from nature and strive to protect it.

A Water Wonderland

The Beginning Of My Biology Adventure

Friday, August 29th of 2014 marks the start of an official trek into the uncharted jungles of room 340. After a few previous grueling days of notes and boring class introductions preparing us for the unknown depths and twists and turns that lurk within the Filipekian Jungle we pushed our class struggle bus into the magical oasis of water hidden within. Our first stop, the Reverse Penny Well.

Reverse Penny Well

As our struggle bus valiantly pushed through the untamed Filipekian Jungle we encountered our first magical sight. The indigenous tribe (named the Filipeks), were mass worshipers of Copper. So naturally they decided to make it resemble their favorite president, Abraham Lincoln. But this no ordinary coin or mega-penny- it had a diameter of over 25ft and it was used as a well! The Filipeks showed our bewildered minds something we could never believe... A reverse well; instead of containing the water deep within the ground they built it above ground for an easier access whenever they needed water. As we stood there looking at a tower of water stacked up on the mega-penny the locals described how cohesion a property discovered a whole back held their water suspended unbelievably together. Cohesion is a property of molecules to stick together or to attract each other and by this sort of weak interlock of water molecules is how they were able to stack up on each other without falling over. The locals also showed us that the surface tension could easily be broken if too much water was added or if any non polar substance came into contact with the water (water is polar). The few times when they would want to flush out their water supply was if it was ever tainted, good luck cleaning that well out!
A side angle of the water stacked up on the Reverse Water Well.

Whenever they needed to flush out their well the Filipeks would mainly use soap, if       not, whatever non polar substance they could get to break water's weak polar cohesive bonds.

Papercup Lake

The struggle bus is very aptly named as we have all slowly begun to realize. As it spluttered and choked and died before it started we knew this journey was going to feel a lot longer than the 250 days we have left until we meet our doom. The captain of our mothership finally dropped us of at our second stop. Papercup Lake. We boarded paper clip boats, specifically designed for travel on the unique lake. With much anxiety as we sat down and pushed ourselves out to the middle of the lake expecting to sink like the Titanic we were in disbelief as we remained floating on top of the water due again to water's magical property of cohesion. Our thin little metal curved ships were saving us from a bath by being so light they could float because they didn't break the water's surface tension created by it's weak cohesion bonds, until our leader thought it'd be funny to toss a bar of soap our way.... SPLOOSH! There was that bath he promised us.
Our boat floating purely on Papercup Lake's surface tension.

A picture of our magic paper clip ship sunken at the bottom, after our captain's cruel idea of breaking the water's polar surface tension by tossing a non polar soap.

The Final Frontier

Our last and final stop of our first adventure through the Filipekian Jungle, the high Charles mountains of the Filipek Monks. These revered wizards were the upmost advanced of all their knowledge of water storing away in their temple, deep within its chambers the dark Filipekian Water Bowl. Whenever someone needs an answer to a pressing matter they could not find the answer to, they traveled far and wide to seek out this bowl. To activate the bowl's mystical power of splashing water of knowledge onto you, you had to become one with the bowl vibrating it's handles creating a resonance with the bronze material of the bowl.that created waves that began splashing when disrupted by the projected dragons on the bowl. However the rest, how immense knowledge is gained from getting a few drops of water splashed onto you is a mystery the Filipek Monks swore an oath to protect.
Waves created by reaching pure harmony with the bowl, becoming one with the bowl.

As we departed with our new wealth of knowledge we realized we'll probably have to upgrade our brain capacity for this class. Until next time my fellow explorers!
